tear the old into pieces

''But there's that fear of standing still.
The unbridled compulsion to travel new paths.
To tear the old into pieces.
To kill that which clings.
And plant the seeds of something new in its ashes.''
Reinhard Kleist - 'Nick Cave-Mercy On Me'

to become whole

''Ιt seems we struggle for a lifetime
to become whole.
Few of us ever do...
Most of us end up going out
the same way we come in--
kicking and screaming.
Most of us don't have the strength--
or the conviction.
Most of us don't want to face our fears.''

Darren Aronofsky - 'The Fountain'

fear of freedom

Dave McKean 'Cages'

-So i was looking at this canvas and i pulled the sheet off it...and just...stared at this immense white surface, and realized...this is it. And i wondered what the first line would be, and how it would move, and what colour and what shape...And i felt absolutely terrified.

-Hah, heh...Fear of freedom, Leo. Everybody's a bird, locked up in a pretty cage. Sometimes you fly to a slightly bigger one, but you never quite have the courage to abandon captivity completely.

our choices

Neil Gaiman 'The Sandman - Season of Mists'

''We do what we must, Lucien.
Sometimes we can choose the path we follow.
Sometimes our choices are made for us.
And sometimes we have no choice at all''.

when i'm asleep

''-When i dream sometimes i remember how to fly. you just lift one leg, then you lift another leg, and you're not standing on anything, and you can fly. And then when i wake up i can't remember how to do it anymore.
-So?
-So what i want to know is, when i'm asleep, do i really remember how to fly? And forget how when i wake up? Or am i just dreaming i can fly?
-When you dream sometimes you remember. When you wake you always forget.
-But that's not fair...
-No.''

Neil Gaiman 'The Sandman -- Brief Lives'
